ABOUT DIANNE AND EMBRACING BODY POSITIVE
I had never imagined I would be a model. I was always told ‘you have such a pretty face’… many of my plus size sisters have likely heard the same thing. Those people commenting may have thought this was a compliment, however all I heard was ‘You are pretty, except your fat body’.
There were never any big chicks in the media, in magazines, etc. If they were, it was in a role of the fat friend of the hot slim female lead, or as the fat gross chick, so my generation never had big women as positive role models. I was always the awkward goth girl, wearing big baggy clothes to hide my body. But I discovered pinup through some friends, and I realised that the vintage style clothes (mainly 1950’s reproduction clothing) were very flattering on my curves - they hugged the smallest part of my torso, I could choose to show cleavage or not, and it hid the bumpy bits I was so ashamed of.
After entering my first pinup pageant in 2014 I was contacted by a photographer who wanted to do a Pinup shoot with me, as the model. I could not believe that a photographer wanted to take photos of an awkward chubby girl like me! After modelling for a while and working with some amazing photographers, my social media slowly started to gain a good following.
INSPIRING BODY POSITIVE THE WAY YOU ARE RIGHT NOW
While I have the odd creepo slide into by inbox, most of my followers are actually women, commenting on how beautiful I was, how they loved my hair/look/confidence and that I was inspiring to them. I've seen and heard comment after comment from women about how much they hate themselves and how they cant even stand to see themselves in a mirror, and this breaks my heart.
I then I realised what my goal was.
The aim now of my modelling and my work as a makeup artist is to build up other women, encourage them to embrace themselves NOW, not to wait until 'they drop a few kilos'.
To go buy that sparkly dress or that sexy lingerie set, take those selfies, book that photoshoot!
It fills my heart to hear from other women say that when they see my photos it gives them more confidence in themselves, that fat, curvy, plus sized, queen sized women can be beautiful and sexy. If I can help women to feel confident, then that makes all the hard times worth it.
Working with Trish from Imagini was so much fun! Immediately our energies matched, and I felt comfortable with her. We were able to take the time to experiment with different looks and set ups, and I found it extremely helpful to have the mirror and computer monitor available to see how the images were looking and adjust my posing.

Trish and her assistant made sure I was looked after during the shoot, making me comfortable as they could, especially when I stripped off for the implied nude phots! And I could not be more happy with the results from the shoot. Her photography is amazing, and retouching made me look like a perfect version of myself, not like someone else. I hope to shoot with Imagini again in the future.
